Bitlets For You This Past Week: May 17 - 23, 2011

Blogger was wonky AGAIN recently... sorry bout' the late (and sparse) post!

Organic isn't just a fad...

Surfing for change.

The EWG's Sunscreen guide for this year is a must-read before "lubing" up this summer!

What is eating gluten-free really about?

Mason jar meals!

Celiac disease as a cover for an eating disorder? It's happening.

Not all restaurants are like this when it comes to dealing with allergies, but there are always a few phenomenal exceptions.

Does this change how you shop for fish?

  1. Blogger has been driving me NUTS! I found some posts that indicate that they're aware of the problem and working on it. They also said that if you try a different browser than you usually use it may solve the problem. I still can't post comments with Internet Explorer because I get into an infinite loop of signing in (when I'm already signed in) but it works fine in Chrome.

  2. And BTW - I wanna have a chef who will make fantastic dishes for my crazy allergic self! Seriously, eating out is such a trial anymore that I only do it once or twice a year. My allergies are mostly to spices, so it makes it really difficult.

It would be so easy if I could just fit into some nice little pre-defined group like Vegan or allergic to milk, or gluten free or something. Instead I have to say... OK does it contain any parsley, cilantro, sage, dill, coriander, cumin, fennel, anise, sesame, sunflower, caraway, celery, parsnip, chamomile, walnuts, pecans... and the list goes on for about another page or so. Sigh.

And in terms of people using food sensitivities as a cover for eating disorders... that just plain pisses me off. It really makes life so much more difficult for those of us who really do have serious dietary limitations. I can't tell you the number of times that people accuse me of just not liking certain foods. Well if "not liking" means not being fond of having a body covered with hives the size of grapefruit, and being rushed to the ER as your throat is closing... well they may have a point.

OK I'm ranting. I'll stop now. It's just all such a bummer isn't it?

  3. I had the same blogger login loop issue too... I was logged into google reader (and therefore my google account period) but blogger didn't seem to get it. I tried in safari (I usually use firefox) but without luck. Hopefully the truly have resolved the issue!

On another note, those are some ridiculous allergies you've got! I can understand not eating out very often given the circumstances. We have a lady that comes into the restaurant where I work every once in awhile who has about 5 "herb & spice" allergies but she's clearly got nothing on you!
